About

Maxie Buchanan began to pursue her fascination of the masters in Europe in the fall of 2000. She returned to study the lost wax process of bronze casting at Stony Brook University. This commitment resulted in her BA in Sculpture in 2004. During this time, Ms. Buchanan developed an interest in figurative sculpture, which led to many shows in New York City and Long Island.

Since completing her formal training, Ms. Buchanan has pursued sculpture in various mediums but has a passion for wood and metals. Modern dance, music and the elemental aspect of the urban environment are major influences in her work.  She combines techniques and approaches for unusual results creating dynamic movement on a large scale. The resulting pieces are rich with form and flair. Her work combines figurative and societal influences.

Ms. Buchanan’s work is abstract, allowing individual responses and interpretation. Her work has been collected by art enthusiasts across the country. She was awarded the Dean’s Award in 2004 from Stony Brook University for a hand-carved wood sculpture that was inspired by the Grand Canyon. Maxie’s work has been featured in a number of shows in New York City and The Hamptons.  She currently lives in Los Angeles.
